India’s largest sandalwood plantation
company relies on FarmERP

To effectively manage plantation operations, optimize resources and monitor growth of around 300,000 trees.

Introduction

The client forayed into Agro-Forestry business in the year 2006. The company acquires waste lands/semi-arid/fallow lands to raise plantations using modern technology. The yield is primarily used to meet the company’s captive requirements of ingredients in food products.

The Company has successfully regenerated one of the endangered forest species, ‘Sandalwood’ in Central India and has established the largest Sandalwood plantation as an Agro-forestry model in India.

The total cultivated area is of over 1200 acres on four different locations in Madhya Pradesh in India.

Challenge

The client is the first to cultivate this crop successfully in the non-conventional regions of Madhya Pradesh. Their teams were using Excel sheets and manual means to record data generated over farms.

A legacy software system with custom modifications was taking care of accounting and inventory operations at central location. But unavailability of software to record agricultural operations and on site current inventory positions was leading to unplanned and inaccurate decisions. All the farm locations were at remote locations with unstable internet connectivity.

They had major concerns in managing the Tree inventory of their main crop and inter crops and tree valuations across all the four locations. Recording and maintaining mortality and observations of main and host crops was very cumbersome.

A software system with offline data recording was essential for the client. Further to it this new software system needed to be integrated with their legacy system.
“A home-grown system became vulnerable and was rigid which was ultimately impacting daily operations and business decisions”

Approach

The modular FarmERP solution proved to be best fit for client’s requirement. Our team of FarmERP functional consultants studied their operations and analysed pain areas. They focused on establishing centralized control over multiple farm locations using FarmERP.

With a user friendly FarmERP Offline Mobile application helped users gain control over planning and production activities in real time. Farm Supervisors were trained to capture all production data over mobile client application. They could use the app in offline mode and synchronized the data to FarmERP web server once in a day. This helped management users to access real time information over web.

Seamless integration of FarmERP with their Oracle based legacy software system helped users to avoid data entry to multiple software systems.

Benefits

  • Optimized labor costs by 5 % and reduced inventory losses by around 8%
  • Mortality of trees decreased by around 4%
  • Streamlined farm activities planning and execution
  • Management users can take decisions based on accurate data insights
  • Achieved table control of farms
  • Real time inventory tracking made easy
  • Tree asset valuations made possible
  • With the integration of legacy system, it eliminated excessive data entry and duplications of entries.
